Ruth E. Claar, 91, passed away very peacefully, while surrounded by her family, at her home in Hamden, Ohio, on Friday, April 13, 2018. She was born in Hamden on August 19, 1926, to the late Charles A. Moore and Anna B. Waldren Moore. She was a graduate of Hamden High School and retired in 1989, following almost 40 years as a seamstress with the Hercules Trouser Co. in Wellston. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star, McArthur, and attended the Hamden United Methodist Church. She found great enjoyment in gardening, cake decorating, crocheting, and visiting with family and friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Claar, in 1993; two sisters, Tura Griffis and infant Garnet Moore; brother-in-law, Edward "Ted" Griffis; sister-in-law, Jean Moore; and most recently on March 25, 2018, her son-in-law, Steven G. Thomas. She is survived by her daughter, Linda J. Thomas, of Hamden; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael L. and Mary Claar, of Hamden; her brother, John L. Moore, of Hamden; her four grandchildren: Angela L. ( Carl ) Knox of McArthur, Melissa L. ( Steve ) Hendershott of Wellston, Michael T. ( Alicia ) Claar of Wellston, and Adam L. ( Ashleigh) Claar of McArthur; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her cat, Skeeter. The family will receive friends at the Jenkins Funeral Chapel in Wellston after 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday. Services will begin at 1:00 P.M., officiated by Pastor Dan Smith, followed by interment in the Hamden Cemetery. The family politely requests that all donations in Ruth's memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 ST Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
