Harry L. Steel Jr., 85, of Wellston, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, July 12, 2023, at OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He was born in Marietta, Ohio, March 11, 1938, to the late Harry Steel Sr. and Mildred M. McCall Steel. He was a 1956 graduate of Wellston High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married the late Karen Ann Jordan Steel, and they had a son, Todd ( Charlotte ) Steel of Jackson, and three daughters : Tina ( Bunk ) McKee, Angie ( Tony ) Perkins, and Lori ( Barry ) Exline, all of Wellston. These children gave Harry six grandchildren : Wade ( Sara ) McKee, Chris ( Darcy ) Perkins, Matt ( Gracey ) Exline, Krystal ( Mathew) Madden, Charity Exline, and Aaron Steel. The grandchildren gave Harry six great grandchildren : Beckett, Lincoln, Cambria, Ivy, Nash, and Decker. Harry also grew up with his younger sister, Margaret Ann ( Jerry ) Schaefer of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He has several nieces and nephews and many, many friends in Wellston including his special friend, Mary Richards. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rosalie Steel Gillen, and his nephew, Joe Gillen. Harry 's main occupation in life was as a self employed maintenance man who could resolve almost any problem a homeowner had. He made so many friends along the way and always remembered to send them a birthday card with his signature duct tape on the envelope. He was a walking history book of Wellston and could sit for hours talking about the good old days in the city. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, camping, reading, and tinkering on old cars. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wellston and the Wilkesville Presbyterian Church. Everyone will certainly miss seeing Harry around town in the days to come. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Wellston on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 2 P.M. with John Pelletier CLP officiating. A private family inurnment will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery in Wellston. Memorials in Harry 's memory may be made to the charity of choice.
